'Drink of the Week' Jeez Louise

ABOUT THE JEEZ LOUISE COCKTAIL

This modern take on a Sour at Revel Cafe & Bar in New Orleans uses amaro for the base spirit. Feel free to substitute other brands, but bartender and drink creator Chris McMillian has found the best ratio to get just the right amount of bitterness to be a three-to-one ratio of Averna to Cynar.

'Drink of the Week' The Brother Hal

ABOUT THE BROTHER HAL COCKTAIL
“Chartreuse is not classically used in rum cocktails; however, the herbaceous character can play well with sugar-cane-based distillates,” says Scott Woodworth, the lead bartender at 12@Madisonin Denver. His drink with white rum, mezcal, falernum and fresh citrus “provides the perfect balance of sweet, savory and citrus,” he says. It can also show that Green Chartreuse is not a one-trick pony of medicinal licorice flavors.
This recipe originally appeared as part of “What the #$@! Do I Do with This? Green Chartreuse: What It Is and How to Use It.”

'Drink of the Week' Apple Chai G&T Cocktail

ABOUT THE APPLE CHAI G&T COCKTAIL
Using a smooth American dry gin such as Bluecoat works well with this delicate Gin & Tonic by Canyon Shayer of Philadelphia Distilling. The apple chai syrup proves not too sweet, with nuances light enough that you don’t want a strong spirit to overpower them. It’s warm, refreshing and boozy all at once and almost too easy to drink. If you want more of a chai punch, try steeping the tea in the cider overnight or doubling up on the amount. Serve at happy hour or as a fun brunch cocktail.

'Drink of the Week' The Painkiller

ABOUT THE PAINKILLER COCKTAIL
If you’re going to name your cocktail the Painkiller, it better pack a punch. Hailing from the British Virgin Islands, where it was invented sometime in the early 1970s, this twist on the Piña Colada does precisely that. Jammed full of fruity, tropical flavors, the Painkiller was later claimed by Pusser’s Rum, whose trademarked recipe tilts heavy on the pineapple juice. This version dials back the P.J. and ups the rum a half ounce for a more boozy, balanced drink.
